AI Consulting

While most of my work is focused on startups, I do occasionally take on a small number of AI strategy engagements with established companies.

Most of the business owners and executives I talk to know they should be using AI (and want to) but are stuck. They're hearing about all the things AI can do, but they're not sure how to actually implement it in their business in a way that produces meaningful ROI while minimizing disruption risks.

They're also (rightfully) skeptical of consultants and dev shops selling solutions that don't pan out.

I'm not a normal consultant.

I'm an entrepreneur and investor who finds these problems genuinely interesting. I think like a business owner, not a vendor. That means I'm focused on what actually works for a business in the real world.

And I only charge people for my work if I actually deliver (more on that below).

What I actually do

I help business leaders figure out how to get real value from AI. Doing so often involves a lot more than just tools bolted onto existing workflows. It tends to require fundamental changes to how the business actually operates at a strategic level (you can read more about that in this blog post).

This is why most people struggle with AI - it requires both strategic business skills AND deep technical experience building AI products (which is very different than normal software). That intersection of skills is almost impossible to find.

So I like to act as a leadership team’s secret weapon for AI by helping them see exactly how they can leverage AI in their business given their real-world constraints and capabilities. Often I'm also building the AI agents, automations, or AI systems that most teams (including talented engineering teams) simply don't know how to actually deliver at a production scale.

  • Demos are easy.

  • Functional solutions that fit into operational realities are hard.

I prefer to deliver working solutions, not slide decks or flashy demos.

You can see a few examples of solutions I’ve recently built at the bottom of the page.

How I work

The companies I work with will define what success looks like. If I deliver it, they pay me. If I don't, they pay nothing. No hourly billing, no retainers. I work this way because the problems I'm drawn to are hard enough that smart business leaders are often skeptical that a consultant can solve them.

Working on a contingency fee model removes the risk for the company and frees me up to focus on the actual work. Plus it's more fun to have some skin in the game (it's just the entrepreneur in me).

I take on 2–3 projects per year, and I'm selective about fit. It has to be an interesting challenge for me and one I'm confident I can deliver on.

If you think I might be a fit for helping your company with your AI strategy, please reach out. Always happy to chat and quick to tell you whether I can assist or not.

Examples of Prior Engagements

AI Recruiter

Developed an AI-first product and business model strategy for an established mid-size professional services company. Then turned that into a shipped product that automated the key variable cost in their business - outsourced recruiting and hiring engagements for their clients. This included the ability to autonomously promote jobs, source candidates, interview, evaluate, and hire candidates as well as provide personalized on-going email and text support (all hyper specific to thier business).

Result was an 9x improvement in their productivity rates (and a dramatic increase in pricing power) while also improving customer satisfaction scores.

AI Investment Analyst

Designed and built an AI Investment Analyst that applies a firm’s specific value-investing framework to evaluate publicly-traded companies at scales. The system sources and synthesizes inputs like 10-Ks, earnings call transcripts, analyst reports, industry research, internal theses, and relevant current events in order to deliver on-demand buy/hold/sell recommendations at or above the quality of the firm’s human analysts.

RFP Proposal Response Agent

Designed and built an autonomous AI system for evaluating RFPs and developing robust, fully-compliant responses to each RFP based on a company’s specific information, capabilities, engagement preferences, etc. The result was a system that could produce winning proposals to complex government RFPs with minimal human oversight and involvement in under 2 hours.
